Dale Thomas

October 14, 1965 - November 20, 2020

Dale Thomas Clark passed away peacefully, surrounded by family after a two year battle with cancer.
He will forever be missed by his wife of 34 years, Glenda, and their two children Justin (Susie), and Tyler. Dale is also survived by his mother Marguerite Clark, sister Lorie (Brian), and brothers Rod (Jackie) and Doug (Katie), mother-in-law Maureen Gourley, sisters-in-law Jodi (Jaimie) Spademan, Marlene Mashinter and brother-in-law Kevin Gourley. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Dale married Glenda on December 21, 1985. Moving throughout Alberta for many years, Dale and Glenda settled in the Chilliwack, BC area in 2007. Here he found his passion working for Hungry for Life International, where he worked until his diagnosis.
Dale will be remembered for his sense of humour, love of travel and adventure, and the impact he made on those he met around the world.
In light of the current pandemic, no public memorial service is planned at this time. In future, we hope to have a gathering to celebrate his life.

RAUGUST
Darryl Lloyd

February 24, 1951 - November 22, 2020

Darryl Lloyd Raugust passed away November 22, 2020 at the age of 69 years from head injuries he sustained in a tragic farming accident. Darryl was a loving family man and respected leader in his church and community and will be missed by all who knew him. He was well known in many different roles:
HUSBAND: Darryl was a faithful, loving partner to Harriet (Diemert). They were married in 1972 and with his marriage he inherited a loving extended family who he loved, served, and cared for throughout his marriage.
FATHER: of Carla (Brad Leischner); Jeremy (Kari); Andrew; Saralyn (Jeff Stel)
Darryl invested heavily in his children and as the years went by family became even more important to him and he was proud of each one.
GRANDPA: was cherished by each of his grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Caleb, Abigail (Leischner); Micah, Josie, Brayden; Benson, Brock, Baden (Stel).
Darryl loved every moment he could spend with them cuddling, playing, cheering for them, spending time together in the tractor, combine or semi, camping, boating, day trips (swimming, trips to the mountains), holiday celebrations (Christmas, birthdays), and even going to Disneyland together. Every memory was cherished and tucked away to enjoy again as he proudly shared them with others.
SON, BROTHER, UNCLE: Darryl was born February 24, 1951 and is the oldest child of Herb (died in 1979) and Edna (died in 2014). Brother to Bryan (Lori); Barry (Dawne); Kervin (Joan); Loretta (Bill Houtman); Darnelda (Geoff Volkman). Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
SERVANT: Darryl’s faith in God formed his character-kindness, generosity, unconditional love and his commitment to serving his family, church, church camps, community and farming. He was happiest when he was serving others-there was no such thing as an
interruption-he viewed it as an opportunity to invest in your life. Serving was important to Darryl here at home but also around the world. He served with Men for Missions (Cuba, Ecuador, and multiple trips to Haiti); Samaritan Foundation (Dominican Republic); Life
Water (Haiti); World Partners (Africa) and Project Jesus for Children (Costa Rica, Nicaragua).
FARMER: Herb and Edna started farming in Delia in 1957. Darryl attended the Delia School, then graduated with his Agricultural/Mechanical degree at Olds College before joining his Dad on the farm. When Dad Raugust passed away Darryl assumed
the leadership of Raugust Farms which included farming with his brothers (Bryan and Barry) and as the years progressed son(and-in-laws) were mentored and welcomed into the farming partnership. Darryl had high standards for himself and the farm. He worked hard and invested himself completely to make the farm successful. Even at 69 years Darryl was not slowing down and we all had a hard time keeping up with him. He was a hard worker and always had one more thing to complete.
FRIEND: Darryl could be counted on to help a neighbor or a stranger in need, anytime of day or night. No matter how busy he was, he always found time to reach out and help others solve a problem loving the challenge and often creating and inventing along
the way. Darryl was first to volunteer and last to leave-reluctant to leave things unfinished (church campouts, family re-unions, community Christmas programs). He would support, encourage and never give up. Friend, acquaintance, or stranger were ALL worth his undivided attention. Darryl tackled each new experience with joy and determination to succeed. He loved the adventure and challenge of achieving his pilots license, driving his Gold Wing motorcycle through the U.S., water skiing, wakeboarding (even at 69), travelling, restoring old machinery, cars and trucks.
Darryl will be greatly missed by his loving wife Harriet, children, grandchildren, siblings and their families, large extended family, farming and church communities and the numerous friends and lives Darryl touched not only in Western Canada but also around the world. Our hearts are broken, but not without the hope of seeing him again in heaven.
Due to the recent covid restrictions we cannot honour Darryl the way he deserves in a memorial service or graveside service. Please share your memories of Darryl with the family through this website. For more information about Darryl’s Drive Through Memorial on Sunday, December 13, 2020, please contact the family at: darrylraugustmemorial@gmail.com.

James (Jim)

January 26, 1931 - December 3, 2020

It is with deep sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Jim at the age of 89 years.
Jim was born in Canton, China to parents Hung and Fong Ma. Jim married the love of his life, Jean Wong. They spent the next 67 years building a wonderful life together. They raised a beautiful family of eight children, who are the pride of their lives.
As a young man, Jim immigrated to Canada to join his father, where they sought the freedom and opportunity Canada offered. He didn’t speak English, but he had a tremendous work ethic and incredible determination to succeed. Jim settled in central Saskatchewan, where he learned about Canadian life in a rural community and became a hockey enthusiast. He quickly learned the English language and became an incredible chef in his own right.
A few years later, Jim returned to China to marry the love of his life, Jean. He made a promise to her, that he would take care of her for the rest of their lives. The newlyweds made their journey back to Canada and Jim learned how to run a profitable restaurant in a small town in southern Alberta. Here, he and Jean welcomed their first generation Canadian-Chinese born son.
Jim had bigger dreams and he realized his business acumen. Jim ventured to find a bigger community that could offer more for his family and found that special place in Drumheller, Alberta. In this bustling farming community, he and Jean grew their family. Soon after, Jim and Jean celebrated the ownership of their first restaurant, Diana Restaurant, and the birth of their fifth child, Diana. Jim took great pride in serving Chinese-Western cuisine. His versatile cooking skills made his Boston cream pies famous. Legend has it, people would drive from as far away as Saskatchewan to enjoy one of these pies.
For nearly 4 decades, Jim demonstrated his love of cooking and business savvy before he sold his share of the Diana Restaurant to care for Jean when she had a stroke. He vowed to support her and personally ensure the best quality of life possible. His devotion was truly a love story that defined their lives. The couple moved to Calgary to be close to their children and grandchildren. Their home became the cornerstone for many family gatherings.
Well into his eighth decade Jim continued his passion for riding his bike and going on his daily walks. He was truly inspirational to his family and neighbours.
Jim leaves to celebrate and carry on his legacy; his loving wife, Jean, his children Ken (Mila), Perry Mah, Susan Wong (Ken), Rose (Warren), Diana Little (Gordon), Sandra, Tony (Louis), Tina Bachynski (Brian). Grandchildren Nicole Sturm (Michael Lee), Megan Mah (Chris Noel), Danielle Little (Ivan Lefebvre), Michelle Little, Raylene Dunn. Great granddaughter Annelise Lefebvre.
Jim’s family would like to extend their appreciation to the health professionals at Northland Dialysis Clinic and Unit 53 at the Peter Lougheed Health Centre for their care and bravery on the frontlines.
A private family service will be held.
Donations in Jim’s name can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, hsf.donorportal.ca, or the Kidney Foundation of Canada, kidney.ca

ENO
Aileen Rose

November 29, 2020

Aileen Eno passed away peacefully in hospital on November 29, 2020 at the age of 96. Aileen will be greatly missed by her brother Harold (Phyllis) Moss of Brighton, ON, sister-in-law Elaine Moss of St. Albert, AB, and her four children: David (Glenda) of Chilliwack, BC, Elizabeth (Frank) Wesseling of Cochrane, AB, Gordon (Laura) of Richmond, BC, and John (Leslie) of Abbotsford, BC. She loved her ten grandchildren: Amy (Phil) Keed, Derek (Veronica) Eno, Katie (Brian) Calder, James Eno, Vicki Eno (Jon Leyland), Holly-Anne Eno (Bryan Steeksma), Sean (Katrina) Eno, Maggie Eno, Sarah Eno, and Michael Eno, as well as her 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three nieces and a nephew. Aileen was predeceased by Bill, her husband of 62 years, parents, Reverend Wallace and Marjorie Moss, and brother, Cedric Moss.
Aileen was born in Goderich, Ontario, in 1924, and moved to Alberta as a child where her father’s ministry took them to Burdett, Hythe and Westlock before moving to Drumheller in 1941. After completing her schooling in Drumheller, Aileen became a teacher and taught in several communities, including East Coulee and in the Carbon area. After the war, she married Bill, and they moved to Edmonton, where she worked at the Correspondence School Branch while Bill attended university. They then returned to the valley where they lived in East Coulee, Rosedale, and Nacmine before purchasing their home in Drumheller. Her 96 years saw many changes in her world, from model-Ts, horse drawn cutters, back yard biffy’s, and coal stoves, to our current modern conveniences and technology. She was very proud of her ability to use her computer well into her 80’s. Aileen loved the valley, was a proud Albertan, and she was well versed in Canadian history. She kept a strong interest in chuckwagon races by keeping careful track of the stats for each heat. Aileen and Bill loved to travel in their little camper van, especially to the mountains to celebrate their anniversary each fall. They travelled all over Canada, with farther adventures in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Music was a central part of Aileen’s life. She had both a piano and an organ in her living room. She played clarinet in the Kinsmen Community Band which took part in many community events including the Calgary Stampede parade. For decades Aileen was the organist at Knox United Church, playing that great pipe organ for countless Sunday services, weddings and funerals. In fact, right to the end of her life she could readily recall the number of any hymn from their hymnal.
She also sang in the church choir and in the Passion Play, and was a strong supporter of the Drumheller Music Festival. Aileen was always busy. Her days were full with normal family upbringing, maintaining a house, sewing garments, compiling family histories, cooking and baking, (although any baking often went with “no, that’s for the church”). She spent countless hours at the church, serving on various committees, as treasurer, and with the UCW’s many functions. She was often on the phone visiting with friends or working out details for a church event. She regularly visited residents at Sunshine Lodge or shut-ins. When not supporting her community or Bill with his many endeavours, she would read or garden. Even at night in front of the TV she would usually have some project going, be it a cross-stitch picture, Christmas decoration, knitting, or a home-made gift. Aileen loved to be with her family. She loved to laugh. She especially loved family get togethers that included a slide show of early family photos and the ensuing wise cracks and teasing among her kids.
Aileen also loved to spend time with her grandchildren, and they have great memories of ‘baking with Grandma’, and of her gentle love. She enjoyed time with her great grandchildren and to hear about their antics. Aileen lived a good, long life. She was a giving, good-hearted, gentle soul, who could be sassy at times, too. She was lovingly dedicated to her family, her community, her church, and her God. She will be greatly missed.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the charity of their choice.
Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Beloved Olga Joan Bertrand born to Sam and Tillie Kohut on January 29, 1930 in Drumheller, passed away peacefully in Calgary on December 3, 2020 surrounded by family. Throughout her entire life she worked selflessly to ensure everyone else’s wellbeing. Her caring nature and empathy towards others was monumental. A devoted and committed Catholic, she volunteered at church cursillos, bazaars and at Birthright for many years helping those in need. Her life overflowed with love, kindness, humility, patience, and diligence. She graduated with honours from the Medicine Hat General Hospital School of Nursing (1952). She went on to work in several hospitals including Drumheller and Ponoka municipal hospitals, U of A in Edmonton, Holy Cross in Calgary which was her favourite place to work and where she was a member of the O.R. open heart team. The Alberta winters must have gotten the best of her because she ended up in California and worked at the St. Eligius Hospital in San Francisco and the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Beverly Hills. While working at Cedars of Lebanon, she had the pleasure of meeting some of Hollywood’s giants including Marlon Brando, Elizabeth Taylor, Dean Martin and she even sat down for breakfast with Ronald Reagan. She retired in the early 1960’s to become a dedicated and devoted wife and mother of 4 children. She and her husband Vic of 48 years settled in Kelowna and raised their family in the beautiful sunny Okanagan. She was predeceased by her husband Vic (2011), her parents Sam (1953) and Tillie (1993), her two sisters Helen (1939) and Ann (2011), and her great friend of more than 40 years Philomena Murphy (2020). She will be greatly missed by her only surviving brother Ted in Calgary, and her cousins Molly Elstone nee (Kostynuik), Bessie Kostynuik and Shauna Lawson nee (Elstone).

GUTWALD
Ralph Gunther

28 July 1933 - 11 December 2020

We are saddened to announce the passing of our Dad, Ralph Gutwald, after a long struggle with health issues. Throughout the past few years, he was the epitome of strength, courage, grace, and of course, the stubbornness of his German heritage.
Dad was born in Brux, Republic of Germany in 1933, which later became part of Czechoslovakia. When World War II broke out in 1939, his family was shipped on trains to internment camps with nothing but a suitcase, where they lived in squalor for over a year. There were many years of hardship living in Nazi Germany, including a period living in another camp post-war. The horrors he witnessed left an indelible impression, yet he managed to find ways to be a typical boy, with stories of stealing “artifacts” from sleeping Russians and digging underneath the internment fence into the forest to explore--much to his mother’s consternation and worry. And worse, collected and disassembled grenades and other acquired weapons in the back shed. Imagine his mother’s surprise when that was discovered during an inspection.
When he was 14 years old, he commenced his journeyman mechanic training and became a full-fledged mechanic by the time he was 18. At the young age of 19, not knowing the language and just after WWII, he decided to immigrate to Canada to find work. He docked in Montreal in December 1952 and made his way by train to Saskatoon where he was employed as a diesel mechanic for CP Rail. Dad’s deepest desire was to become an aeronautical engineer. However, a faulty furnace in his boarding house resulted in carbon monoxide poisoning. It impaired his memory, studying became difficult, and he was unable to pursue that dream. He made up for that loss by achieving his private pilot licence in his 40s, and his passion for aviation stayed with him until the end.
Dad moved to Edmonton in 1956 when he was offered a job with M&P Trucking, and concurrently, attended St. Joseph’s High School to improve his English. He met Mom while attending school and he was smitten. They married in 1958, and being good Catholics, started their family soon after.
Dad was always resourceful and resilient. They moved to Drumheller in 1963 after accepting a position as an automotive teacher at the new high school. Conditional upon employment was that he pursued his teaching certificate, travelling back and forth to Edmonton to attend University of Alberta classes for four years while still teaching school. He received his teaching degree in 1968. During the summer months, he worked in the oilfields as a diesel mechanic to supplement their income.
Mom and Dad loved travel, new experiences and entertaining, and they had the best backyard pool parties. Dad taught all of us the value of hard work. He told us if we wanted a swimming pool, we would have to help dig it. By hand. And we did. But we had decades of enjoyment in that pool…even skipping classes and bringing friends over during hot June days. And the pool was a magnet for our large family, right down to his grandchildren. Dad was a real renaissance man: in addition to tinkering with anything mechanical or technological, he loved to cook and sew, often to the chagrin of his daughters who had to confess their Dad made their dresses. We didn’t appreciate this about him until much later in our lives.
Dad was so proud of his family and they were always his priority. His children are left to mourn his passing and rejoice in his life; Craig (Judy), Catherine (Patrick), Shelley (Dale), Licia, and daughter-in-law Dixie. He was Opa (and sometimes Santa) to his 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, with another on the way. Dad is survived by his younger brother Volker in Germany and is predeceased by his parents Eduard and Aloisia. Dad’s saddest moments were when he lost his eldest son Mark, daughter Alyson, and grandson Brenon. He never recovered from the sudden loss of Mom in 2014 after 56 years of marriage. We are overjoyed he is with her and the rest of his loved ones now.
Due to the pandemic, so many of our family and close friends were unable to see Dad in his final months, including his very special friend Lisa. Being a humble man, he underestimated the impact he had on young students as an educator, and so many people have reached out to tell us how he made school worthwhile and inspired them to pursue their own goals. We have therefore decided we will plan for a large gathering when restrictions on group events are lifted. The specifics of his Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
We must acknowledge and recognize the exceptional care Dad and our family received during this challenging pandemic period, and the past few weeks. We are forever grateful for the outstanding professionalism, compassion and caregiving of Dr. Amanda Randolph, Pharmacists Kevin and Carmen, Nurses, Aides, and LPNs, especially Jennifer, Lise, Kathy, Kim, Jolene, Helen, Asha, and Hazel. Although we may have missed a few names, your contributions to Dad’s comfort and the relationships you formed with him are appreciated from the bottom of our hearts. It is important to us that for those who wish, memorial donations may be made in Dad’s name to The Drumheller Area Health Foundation, specifically directed to Continuing Care.

MCKINNON
Rita Mary

December 18, 2020

It is with extreme sadness that the family of Rita Mary McKinnon announces her passing on Friday, December 18, 2020, at the age of 87. Rita leaves to mourn her very loving husband of 66 years, Allan McKinnon. Their love for each other grew stronger and deeper as time went on. It was a relationship their family looked up to, one for the history books. She also leaves behind her children, Jim (Kristine), Malcolm (Twila), David (Shirlee), and Barb (Grant) Bishop; grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark), Christopher, Burgandy (Troy), Curtis (Krista), Tiffany (Riley), Justin (Megan), Matt (Randi), Paden, Colton (Tonya), Courtney (Jon); and 11 great-grandchildren. Rita was born in Michichi, AB, and met the love of her life at the age of 16 at the Drumheller High School Dormitory. They spent their early marriage in Rosebud and then moved to Standard in 1969, where Rita was a lifetime member of the Lionettes. Rita loved to travel, curl, snowmobile, dance, and generally have a good time. She always looked forward to drives in the mountains with her family and some of her greatest memories came from the many camping expeditions that she and Allan did together. Rita was one of a kind; she was feisty, thoughtful, fearlessly protective of her loved ones, and had the biggest heart for her friends and family. Mac (Grandma) took tremendous pride in all her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She leaves behind a huge hole in the hearts of many, but we were so blessed to have had her in our lives. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Wheatland Lodge for the exceptional care provided to Mom. Due to existing covid restrictions, no funeral services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Standard Municipal Library. To send condolences, please visit Rita’s obituary at www.wheatlandfuneralhome.ca

CAMPBELL
Norma Carol

January 13, 1944
Winnipeg, MB
December 17, 2020
Drumheller, AB

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Norma Carol Campbell (nee Weston). Norma was the beloved wife and soul mate of 55 years to George Linton Campbell, who predeceased her on February 17, 2016. Their monumental love for each other will last for eternity. Norma passed away suddenly at the age of 76 on December 17, 2020, after very strongly and bravely struggling through complications with pneumonia.
Norma was born in Winnipeg and later moved to Calgary, where she met her treasured husband in a meeting of chance on a day trip on the road- one of her most loved stories. Norma’s favourite thing in the world was to be with her immediate and extended family, as much as possible. She talked with much pride about her children and grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to share family news. She also kept busy with numerous friends and loved visiting and chatting with everyone, in person, and on the phone. Norma had a true passion for camping, spending time outside in the sun, and enjoying the beautiful Rocky Mountains. With her family, she took countless month-long camping trips through Alberta and British Columbia, with her absolute favourite places to stay being Penticton and the Kananaskis. Norma’s true love for all animals was a constant her whole life. She was always excited to see any animal in nature and spent long road trips pointing out every creature that she could see to her family. She devoted true care and attention to all of her beloved pets over the years, and never missed an opportunity to interact with any dog or cat she saw. Later in life when Norma wasn’t able to have pets due to building restrictions, she dedicated many hours to volunteering at the Drumheller SPCA, where she found true joy in spending time with and helping animals in need. Norma endearingly ended every single phone conversation over the years with “bye-bye for now”, and that is how we wish to think of her passing- not as a goodbye, but a ‘bye-bye for now’.

Norma will be forever remembered and loved by her children - her eldest son, Stacey (Marcia) of Hanna, and her daughter Jaime (Ryan) of Youngstown. She is also survived by her two cherished grandchildren, Aiden and Emily. She will be sorrowfully missed by her sister Marlene, of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, as well as by her much-loved niece and nephew, Nancy (Don), and Philip, of Calgary. She will be dearly missed by countless other family members and friends. Besides her adoring husband, Lynn, Norma was predeceased by her parents, John and Josephine, and brother-in-law, Gordon. In keeping with Norma’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. As Norma’s love for animals was so strong, for those who wish, the family requests that memorial donations be made directly to the Drumheller & District Humane Society.

ARTINDALE
John Donnelly

December 30, 2020

It is with a heavy heart we announce the death of our father John Donnelly Artindale (Don) at the age of 92. He passed away peacefully on December 30, 2020, at the South Health Campus in Calgary Alberta.
Don was born in Sunnybrook, AB, growing up with his 8 other siblings on the family farm. Striking out on his own at a young age, he held various jobs that eventually led to careers in the Canadian Armed Forces, then with Correctional Services Canada. After his retirement as a Corrections Officer, Don moved to Calgary and worked as a commissionaire at the Calgary International Airport.
After marrying in 1957 Don and Irene settled in BC, then in 1968, moved to Drumheller to raise his family and pursue his passions. Don loved quarter horses, and took great pride and care of those that he owned. He also loved the outdoors, and enjoyed gardening, hunting, and camping. Don was passionate in his faith. He lived this out through his involvement with his church, and by helping others in any way that he could. Don took great pleasure spending time with his family and friends. His presence, wild stories and sense of humor will be missed by all.
In addition to his daughters, Donnerene (Vern) Steward and Lonita (Paul) Forbes, Don is survived by his grandchildren Jeremy (Carmen) Steward, Janell (Darryl) Caravan, and Joel Steward. He is also survived by Evelyn Fritz (sister), and his former wife Ruth Artindale and her family.
He was preceded in passing by his late wife (Irene Artindale), parents, and siblings.
Due to Covid19 restrictions the Memorial Service has been postponed, and will be held at a later date.
Those wishing to celebrate the life of Don Artindale may send their memorial donations to his favorite charity,
International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (ifcj.ca).

Joseph “Joe” Stewart

November 13, 1958 - December 27, 2020

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Joseph “Joe” Stewart Berry of East Coulee, Alberta. Joe was kind to everyone, social, structured and disciplined. He was honest, unable to sugar coating anything, and strong to his opinions but never rude. He loved spending time with his girls, pets and particularly his grandson; going on adventures including road trips, camping, taking in hockey games and hikes or even adventures on the screen. He loved reading books and watching birds at his feeders and baths which were always filled. He loved telling stories of his military times, reminiscing about the friends he’d made and places he’d been. He enjoyed a big glass of cold milk or a cold beer but always had a coffee in hand. He spent much of his time in Wayne, Alberta where he worked the last four years at the Last Chance Saloon and absolutely loved the place, his work and the people. He will be greatly missed and always remembered. He leaves behind brother Jeff Berry and his wife Vanessa (Nathan and Annie), his daughters, Sophie De Silva and Sadie Berry, grandson, Lucian Stewart De Silva and his beloved dog Jacky who was by his side till the very end. Joe was predeceased by his parents Gordon Leroy Berry and Phyllis Stewart (MacBeath) as well as his dog GrizzBear and cats To and Kiwi who he missed very much. Due to Covid restrictions, also at Joe’s request, no funeral will be held and his ashes will be spread by immediate family and friends.
In honour of his memory, donations can be made to the Drumheller Humane Society.

NAEGELI
George Donald

November 11, 1953 - January 11, 2021

It is with profound sadness and deep regret that we announce the passing of General George.
He was born in Drumheller November 11, 1953 and passed away in Dawson City, Yukon January 11, 2021. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Glenda and her children, his daughter Dana and her children Jackson and Oakley, his brother Wyatt (Cora), his sisters Connie Campbell (Sandy) and Patty Naegeli, two aunts, one uncle and many cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews as well as his friends Jody and Randy, Scotty, Lorne, Bruce, Black, Rich and Kate. He was pre-deceased by his parents Tuffy and Iva and his younger sister Carol.
George was raised in the valley attending DCHS where he excelled in auto mechanics but found his way to the patch and eventually went back to school and obtained his pipe-fitting ticket. He truly did love the great outdoors and everything that it entailed - fishing, hunting, exploring, riding his Harley - and he particularly liked the north country, settling on a small acreage west of Dawson City. He was brilliant at math and was a voracious reader.
General George was a chip off Tuffy’s block and loved to give orders and had a zealous need to be right but we loved him any way. His passing has created a void in our lives that may never be filled. Rest easy George - shiny side up and between the ditches. We’ll catch you later.
If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to the charity of their choice or to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in memory of Ryder Sam Northrup.
At George’s request (and frankly because of Covid) there will be no service but a Celebration of Life may be held at a later date.

MACDONELL (HELLER)
Beth

October 12, 1927 - January 11, 2021

Beth MacDonell passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on January 11th, 2021. Predeceased by the love of her life, Bruce MacDonell (1995) and son Douglas James MacDonell (1973). She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Dianne Bergevin and Janet Steadman and her son, Dave MacDonell, as well as her sister, Edna Sparkes. Beth also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought light to her life.
Beth was born in New Westminster, BC on October 12th, 1927. Her family moved back to Beaverlodge, AB where her parents were Pioneers of the Peace. She graduated from the RN program at the UofA Hospital in 1948, and from the BScN program in 1949. She was known for her passion and empathy in the over 20 years she was a public health nurse, focusing on genetics, even making cross stitch patterns for families who lost a child. Beth spent most of her life in the Drumheller area but recently moved to the Leduc area to be closer to family. Everyone who met Beth knew that she was special; she was incredibly kind, thoughtful, generous, and wise. It was best not to argue with her for she was as strong-willed as she was wise. Her strength, wisdom, and love lives on in all those who knew her and will continue to bring light to the world. She will be deeply missed.
No service will be held, but we welcome people to share memories and photos of Beth on rememberingbeth.weebly.com.
In honour of mom’s deep love of children, we have chosen Children's Hospital (Calgary or Stollery) or a charity that is special to you.

LEONHARDT
Leslie Alexander

September 18, 1962 - January 12, 2021

On January 12, 2021, Leslie Leonhardt was called to his eternal home while at the Continuing Care Centre of the Drumheller Hospital from complications related to dementia. He is survived by parents Ron and Helen Leonhardt, sister Lynn (Clint) Hemming, brother Gordon (Kelly) Leonhardt, sister Karen Leonhardt, numerous nieces and nephews, and a large extended family.
Born on September 18, 1962, Leslie’s life took a significant turn when at the age of 22-months he had major brain surgery, leaving him with epilepsy and a variety of physical and cognitive challenges. At the age of six, he began having Grand Mal seizures, which doctors struggled all his life to control.
Despite his challenges, Leslie achieved many things. He attended Verdant Valley School and then Drumheller Valley Composite High School, where he obtained a high school diploma with support from his teachers and parents. He attended a Vocational Training Course at Red Deer College, and the Western Industrial Training Centre in Edmonton. He also spent two years at Canadian Lutheran Bible Institute in Camrose. Leslie joined DARTS and worked at the bottle depot for several years, putting his math skills to use. He volunteered at the Royal Tyrrell Museum and the Drumheller Public Library.
Leslie was active in the 4-H Beef and Grain Clubs, taking part in public speaking competitions and attending various camps. He was baptized and confirmed in faith at Grace Lutheran Church, Drumheller, where he was active with the youth group, then volunteered as a greeter for more than 30 years. Leslie loved hockey, bingo, and walking, especially to Yavis’ Family Restaurant.
The family would like to thank Dr. Tlhape and Dr. Mpisi for the care they provided over the years. Special thanks to the staff of Stettler Continuing Care for helping Leslie transition to long-term care. We also owe a great debt of gratitude to the staff of the Continuing Care Centre in Drumheller (Victoria Lane) for their genuine and constant care for Leslie over the past two years, and for their support for our family in his final days.
Leslie’s family would also like to extend thanks to the Drumheller community for the support you showed him over the years. We know that so many of you watched out for Leslie. Countless times there were Good Samaritans – mostly unknown to us – who stopped to call an ambulance or cover him with a blanket or take him to the hospital. We have no way of knowing who all of you are, but you have shown what it means to be a community.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church (620 – 2nd Ave. W Drumheller T0J 0Y3) or to the Epilepsy Association of Calgary (316, 4014 Macleod Trail SE Calgary T2G 2R7).

Marion Patricia
December 27, 1932 - January 12, 2021

It is with great love and deep sorrow that the family of Marion Patricia Olsen and Leonard Bernard Olsen announce their passing due to COVID-19 on Tuesday, January 12th, 2021 at the ages of 88 and 93, respectively. Marion and Leonard’s memory will be cherished by their children Bernard Olsen, Patricia Zilinski (Randy), Judy Olsen, and Holly Olsen-Leaf (Scott); grandchildren Greg, Katie, Christina, Logan, Jenna, Melissa, Thomas, and Celia; great-grandchildren Cohen, Isla, and Lincoln. Marion and Leonard are pre-deceased by their parents, Arthur and Erella Johnson, and Christ and Elvira Olsen; their loving daughter-in-law Jane Olsen, and their grandson Wesley Zilinski.
Marion was born on December 27th, 1932 in the town of Drumheller to Arthur and Erella Johnson. Leonard was born on February 3rd, 1927 in the town of Morrin to Christ and Elvira Olsen. Marion and Leonard were married on October 23rd, 1954 in the Morrin Lutheran Church.
They built a wonderful life together living on their farm in Morrin and later moved to Calgary in 1974. Marion had many talents and could almost always be found baking or sewing. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and would do anything she could to make them smile. Marion was a homemaker and created a loving home for her children and grandchildren to grow up in. Leonard was an avid sports fan, a skilled farmer, and was such a proud dad and papa. He had an admirable work ethic, not retiring until he was 83. Leonard continued to work on the farm even when he was employed by Motion Canada. One of his proudest achievements was when he was celebrated as the longest serving employee in the company’s history. Together, Marion and Leonard spent their years travelling around the world, taking weekend trips to the farm, and spoiling their grandchildren.
Marion and Leonard will be deeply missed by all. We thank the staff at St. Marguerite Manor for their care of Marion and Leonard in their final years. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary. Photos, memories, and condolences can be shared through Courtney-Winters Funeral Home in Drumheller. 403-823-2666
