Symowoniuk
Patricia Ann

November 28, 1937 - August 21, 2019

It is with heavy hearts the family of Patricia Ann Symowoniuk announce her passing on Wednesday, August 21 in Red Deer, AB at age 81, with family by her side.
Patty was born in Drumheller, AB and was the daughter of Michael and Jean Boychuk. She attended school in Rosedale and as she grew into a young woman, had many wonderful jobs, the Bank, Bookkeeper for Andreasen Bros. and for the past 40 plus years she was the Post Master of the Rosedale Post Office.
On June 29, 1961 she married Walter Symowoniuk, they resided in Rosedale which is where they raised their 3 sons... Michael, John and Taras.
Patty had many passions in life, her boys were at the top of her list, she loved cooking for them and passed on her favorite recipes to Michael and John. Her vegetable and flower gardens were her pride and joy. She had a love for her ornamental roosters and chickens, they were on display throughout the house, this kept her memory alive of the chicken/pigeon coupe at the old house by the bridge. Her yard and post office would be seasonally decorated for herself and especially for the young children in the community. Her Saturday shopping trips with her sister Shirley were always something she looked forward to ... both looking for the best treasures around town. The bond between these two sisters grew year after year and especially this past year. Patty always said Shirley kept their lives interesting.
Over the years, the community residents became part of the family as she watched family after family, generation after generation grow up in the Rosedale community.....she was loved and respected by so many! She was the Ann Landers of Rosedale... giving all a beautiful smile and advice if they needed. The community is already missing this Angel of a Woman.
Patty will be fondly remembered by her family: Sons John (Tracey & Kyle), Taras (Brandon, Janet, Cassie & Cody) daughter-in-law Tracy Symowoniuk. Sister Shirley Los and her boys, Rocky and Vanda, Rod and Jacqueline, Rick and Neliana, Jason and families.
Patty was predeceased by her son Michael, husband Walter, her parents Michael and Jean Boychuk, as well as her baby brother Michael.
To honour Patty’s wishes a small gathering will be planned in the coming months.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to the Symowoniuk Legacy Park , in memory of Patty and Michael.

HOWLETT
(Gibbons)
Ethel Louise

March 7, 1941 - August 29, 2019

A golden leaf has fallen off of the Howlett family tree. Ethel Louise Howlett (Gibbons), cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, age 78, of Stettler, Alberta quietly passed surrounded by her family on August 29, 2019.
Ethel, the eighth child of Harley and Jennie Gibbons was born on March 7, 1941 in Blackfalds, Alberta. She grew up in the Blackfalds area and attended Blackfalds School for Grades 1-8, and the Nelson School in Lacombe for Grade 9. She left school early to care for her ill mother and handicapped brothers. Ethel’s brother Archie introduced her to a handsome fella named Leslie Howlett and they were married November 14,1959. To this union five daughters were born. Les’ career with the Alberta Wheat Pool took them to Chancellor, Wetaskiwin, Rimbey, Bentley, Bittern Lake, Beynon, Huxley and Carbon where they raised their family. In 1990, they retired to Stettler to be near family. 2018 they moved into Paragon Place Lodge, Stettler.
Ethel’s life revolved around her home and family. Ethel was the keeper of the stories--family history, birthdays and anniversaries. She also was a wealth of knowledge for baking and canning. The best recipes were always just a phone call away. Ethel enjoyed doing crafts. She delighted in gifting her handmade cross stitch pictures, knitted baby clothes, afghans, and crocheted tablecloths to family and friends. These are real treasures to us all. Ethel loved playing the chord organ and her guitar. Blue Grass and country music were her favourite, and she enjoyed a much-anticipated trip to Nashville in 2017. Family celebrations were also cherished by Ethel. In June, we held an early 60th Wedding Anniversary party in which the whole family was in attendance. She was very proud to see the family tree that a lifetime of love had created.
She leaves to mourn her husband of 60 years, Leslie and five daughters: Wanda (Keith) Best of Nanaimo, Kathy (Mike) Hofer of Rockyford, Valerie (Bruce) Mappin of Erskine, Michelle (Peter) Larsen of Standard and Marilyn (Michael) Weatherald of Rimbey; eleven grandchildren: Brandi (Dan) Belliveau, Shane Best, Stephanie (Jeff) Yule, Meghan Nichols (Rolly Thomson), Angeline (Lindsey) Shadlock, Charlee Mappin, Bobbie Mappin (Devon Robinson), Ashley (Wes) Kirkpatrick, Melissa (Garrett) Smith-McCormack, Colby Weatherald (Annie Schur) and Connor Weatherald; and nine great grandchildren: Dylan Belliveau, Payton, Taylor & Sawyer Yule, Raeleigh & Nash Nichols, Westin & Ruger Shadlock and Jack Smith-McCormack.
She will also be sorely missed by her brother Archie Gibbons and in-laws Jack Juke, Harry (Joyce) Howlett, Ken Craig and Fern Nelson, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
It was an honour for the family to care for our mother during her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. The family was very fortunate to have time to reminisce with many relatives and friends over the past few months. Special thanks to Dr. Kuschke, Dr. Mpisi, Dr. Rehan, and the ER staff at Drumheller hospital, Tammy Caldron, Wendy Poole, Jennifer Nagy, Strathmore/Calgary Homecare, Rev. Barbara Lieurance and Keith and Darlene Murphy.
A private family service will be held at her request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Alberta Cancer Foundation or to a charity of your own choice.

KOHUT
Irene Marguerite

October 27, 1939 - August 30, 2019

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great- Grandmother, Sister, Auntie, Sister in law and Friend, departed this world on August 30, 2019 at the age of 79 years old.
Irene was predeceased by her son John Jr. The one comfort for the family is knowing they are now together.
Irene has been a long-time resident of Drumheller. Born on October 27, 1939.
Irene will be missed by many. Irene was a very proud member of the Community of Drumheller. She always enjoyed being involved in different initiatives throughout the Valley. She was generous and giving of her time. She loved her Beta Sigma Phi ladies’ group and she was a strong support to John and the Rotary Club.
Irene and John started Hi-Way 9 Express in 1969. She treated everyone as part of her family and was loved by all who knew her as a result. Many people didn’t realize how involved she was with the Company, however, in the early years Irene and John worked side by side to get the Company going. Her pride and joy was MIK Carriers. For years people didn’t know what this meant however it was her brain child (Mrs. Irene Kohut).
Anyone who knew her, knew that she was as kind and gentle of a person as you would ever meet. It didn’t matter what hand she was dealt - didn’t matter if she got knocked down. She just took things in stride, and bounced back. She was resilient. Irene kindly cared for everybody before herself.
Irene was an amazing mother of 4 children, grandmother to 12 and great grandmother to 5. She loved them all more than anything, and was proud of them every single day. She was never happier than when she was with anyone of them, they were her world.
Irene was a wife, she spent 60 years with the love of her life, John, they married February 14, 1959. She was devoted, caring, supportive and honest. After 60 years of marriage, John and Irene still looked at each other with that little sparkle in their eyes.
Although she is no longer with us on Earth, she will always be in our hearts.
Irene leaves to mourn her beloved husband of 60 years, John Kohut. Her daughter Heather (Kelly) son Darrell (Kathy) and son Dean (Katherine). Her grandchildren Christopher Kohut, Karly Bensmiller, Kyle Kohut, Trent, Taylor, and Madison Colberg, Scott Kohut, Kristine Gillon, Jeffrey, Paige, Tyler, and Mackenzie Kohut as well as her five great grandchildren Cash, Quinn, Finley, Weston, and Mack.
Irene is also survived by her sister Carol Braunberger (Roy), brothers Ted Rounds, Jim Markle (Gwen) and cousin Paul DeCosta (Sheila), as well as special nieces, nephews, sisters in law and friends.
Irene was predeceased by son John Kohut Jr, her mother Estelle Lawrence and father Speed (Harold) Rounds. Her sister Jackie Davis, Auntie Doreen, Auntie Irene, and many other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Irene will be held at a later date.
Donations may be made to Heart to Heart Society, Box 162, Drumheller, Alberta T0J 0Y0

CLARK
Oscar William

July 25, 1932 - September 9, 2019

With sad hearts, we announce Oscar’s peaceful passing on Monday, September 9, 2019 at the age of 87 years.
He will be forever missed by his wife of 62 years, Marguerite and their 4 children, Lorie (Brian), Rod (Jacalyn), Dale (Glenda) and Doug (Katie).
Oscar will also be sadly missed by his 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Michele and Tony Schimmel and their children Austin (Jackie) and Joshua. Michael and Janna Simmerson and their children, Camryn, Aidan and Kaelan. Charity (Mike) Krieger and their children, Addison and Emma Krieger. Curtis Clark, Justin and Susie Clark, Tyler Clark, and Alexis Clark.
Oscar was particularly fond of and cherished his brother Roy. Roy was always a welcome part of all our family gatherings.
He was also honoured to consider Cheryl (Doug) Middlebrook and children David and Lucas as part of his immediate family.
Oscar was predeceased by his father and mother and more recently his brother, Albert.
Oscar had many skills, tinkering, welding, farming, story telling (his version), golf, playing guitar, singing, making up songs for literally everything, making something out of nothing and making the best of everything. If you know him at all you know that his most mastered skill was making you feel like you were the most important person in the room, with a wink or that adorable smile.
He was born to Tom and Anna Clark in Wilkie, Saskatchewan on July 25, 1932. He had 6 sisters and three brothers. He worked along side his dad in the sugar beet fields even at the tender age of 6. By the time he was twelve he handled the team of horses raking hay. Dad met my mom, the love of his life, in 1954 and married in 1957, starting an incredible 62 year journey of love and devotion. After selling the farm in Stanmore mom and dad moved to the farm in Rosebud in 1960. Dad farmed, raised hogs, fed calves and drove school bus. Dad drove the school bus for 34 years. He drove multi generations of family on that bus. He considers those that rode on his bus, part of his family and was always delighted to see them and catch up with a visit. Dad loved spending time in his shop building tractors, trailers and just about anything else with wheels. He was able to enjoy working in the shop well into his eighties. Shortly after retiring from driving the bus, mom and dad sold the Rosebud farm and retired along side the Red Deer River just outside of Drumheller. He took great pride building and maintaining the beautiful yard at the acreage.
How do we describe the most amazing man we knew? They say we “Live in the hearts we leave behind”. If this is the case, dad will live on forever.
Please join the family in a celebration of his life which will be held at the Alliance Church in Drumheller (670 7th Ave E Drumheller) at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 23, 2019.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Joan loved a good joke. She also loved to travel (Hawaii was her favorite place). Joan’s fondest of travels was with her sister Judy, for numerous years to Reno and once to Dallas for sewing conventions, Montana for a sewing retreat and they also went on a quilting cruise.
Her family mostly cherishes the times she hosted countless years of family reunions and holiday dinners which included hot games of Canasta and Rumoli, for endless hours. Also, many summers with family and friends in BC or at Pine Lake, where no one was safe from a surprise bucket of water or water hose sprayed on you while you slept.
Joan was very loved and will be truly missed.
Joan requested no funeral and will only have immediate family for a private memorial dinner.
In lieu of flowers, family has requested donations to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation 351 9th Street NW Drumheller, AB T0J 0Y1 to support mental health specifically for Dementia.

HERZOG
Gloria Swainston

September 13, 2019

Gloria Herzog (nee Trout) passed away peacefully in Calgary with her children by her side at the age of 85 on September 13, 2019.
Gloria was the 4th of 15 children born to Frank and Erma Trout, growing up on the family farm south of Big Valley and adjacent to the Imperial Ranch.
Gloria completed her schooling in Delia and then progressed to the Teachers Training program in Calgary, following which she taught Grades 1 through 9 at Surprise School. The Handhills Stampede provided the occasion to meet Bob Herzog; the beginning of a lifelong loving partnership.
Gloria lived a good long full life. One of her many gifts was creating beauty with her hands be it needlework, baking, or flower gardens. She applied perfection to all things she touched. She had a passion for Mother Nature’s beauty and often wanted nothing more than to be with the grassy hills, the big sky and sunsets, the birds and their songs. Her greatest happiness was to be with Bob, and surrounded by family.
Gloria was a dedicated partner in marriage, in her family and the farm. She was central to countless family social events and was the creator of so many happy memories for others. She delighted in caring for and spending time with all of her grandchildren, taking great pride in their accomplishments. She loved to collect and share photographs and document details big and small about her family and community. She took pride in everything she did, and was especially dedicated to keeping the farm books in perfect order until shortly before leaving Delia. Gloria was a born communicator and connector, and loved nothing more than to visit and meet with family and friends over coffee or over the phone. Her community involvements included 4H Sewing club, Delia Fall Fair and Communities in Bloom.
Following a move from the farm to their new home in Delia, Gloria and Bob enjoyed all the neighbors, merchants and social activities in town. As time went by and life grew quieter; crosswords, family photos and music became her constant companions. In 2014 Gloria and Bob left Delia for Airdrie and in 2016 made their final move to Providence Care Centre in Calgary.
Gloria will be deeply missed by her children Janet, Susan (Ralph), Mitchell (Karen) and Jennifer (Tom) as well as grandchildren Marc (Catherine), Paul (Antonia), Justin (Kayla), Warren, Grant (Maria), Jeffrey (Jordan), Kaylin and Ashlyn (Quinten), and great grandchildren, Natalie, Andrew, Benjamin and Alisia.
Also left behind are sisters Audrey Kingcott, Rosemarie (Tiny) Niemetz, Faith Crowle, Betty Ridley (Robert) and Marilyn Muhlbeirer (Robert) plus sisters-in-law Connie, Barb and Glenda Trout; Shirley, Arlene, Eva, and Joan Herzog as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gloria was predeceased by Bob, her beloved husband of 63 years in 2017 and grandson Jordan Larkam in 2009. Also predeceased by her parents and siblings Art, Gwen, Austen, Glen, David, Lyman, Daryl, Carolyn and Tim.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Providence Care Centre, Calgary for their constant, compassionate and
respectful care for Gloria in her final years.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm Saturday, September 28 at the Delia Community Hall, Delia, Alberta. Interment to follow at the Delia Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Providence Care Centre, 149-Providence Blvd SE, Calgary, AB T2X 0X2
