EDWORTHY
June Elfrieda
(Brandenburg)

April 14, 1939 - February 6, 2020

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our precious mom, June Elfrieda Edworthy (Brandenburg) who passed away on February 6th, 2020. Frieda was born April 14, 1939 to Erna and Rudolph Brandenburg in Wayne and raised in Rosedale, Alberta. Frieda was the second oldest of 5.
Mom led a life of integrity and kindness with a warm hand and heart. Her whole life she put others first. Frieda married Jack in 1966 and they moved from Calgary to reside in Edmonton to raise their children Melany and Heath. Mom ran her successful business Elfrieda Enterprises at home so she could be at home to raise us. Frieda was a dedicated daughter, friend, wife, sister, mom and Grandma. Mom loved to spoil her grandchildren! Mom was always there to help, to listen, and to support anyone in need. Frieda, alongside Jack, was involved with many South Edmonton Rotary functions throughout their married life. She always had time for her bridge club and her neighbors, her friends and of course, her family. She loved her crosswords, listening to CBC and perhaps the odd trip to the casino. Frieda was predeceased by her brother Sonny and her husband Jack. Mom just had a relaxing vacation to her happy place, San Diego, getting some shopping in and came home and fell ill and tragically succumbed to a stroke. Frieda will be incredibly missed by her family and her many friends.
WE LOVE YOU MOM! There will be no service per Frieda’s request. Please donate to the charity of your choice in her honour. We would like to thank the nurses and staff on Unit 51 at the Grey Nuns in keeping our mom comfortable.

BUZZARD
Betty “Joyce”

October 22, 1928 – February 26, 2020

It is bittersweet we announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt & friend at the ripe ol’ age of 91. Our hearts are heavy and although we will miss Joyce’s presence in our lives . . . we know she is once again riding with renewed strength and independence in greener pastures. Joyce was born and raised by Jim and Mary Langdon on a farm in the Rosebud/Standard district, alongside five siblings. Before she could even walk, Joyce discovered she was most comfortable in a saddle atop a horse. This is a well known fact to everyone who knew her and it was not only demonstrated in her personal life, but also competitively. Joyce was a competing member of the Standard Riding Club and area rodeo events, including barrel racing at the Calgary Stampede. As a young adult, Joyce moved to the big city (Calgary) where she attended college, worked, married, became a mother and even relocated to Toronto for a time. There was no denying though . . . Joyce was a true cowgirl with a pure country soul . . . attempting happiness in a life of ‘city chic’. It didn’t take long before she ‘cowgirled up’, grabbed the reins and returned to her country roots along with her son Kelly. Back home on the range again, she met and married . . . this time, her true love and a confirmed cowboy, Donny Buzzard. They shared a unique compassion for animals and together embodied and lived the country life and spirit until Donny’s passing in 2009. With great reluctance, Joyce left the farm and relocated to Strathmore in 2014. Since the move to Strathmore, Joyce faced medical and personal challenges that even her well known spirit and fire within could not bear. Most notably and recently was the death of her son
Kelly Hansen at the age of 59, just weeks before her own death. Joyce was also predeceased by Brothers Ken, Dale, Neil and Sister Dorothy. Joyce is survived by her Brother Jim (Phyllis) Langdon of Oregon, dear sisters-in-law, Vera, Mary, Avanel and Julia, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends. We invite you to dust off your boots, don your western wear and join family and friends for a Country Celebration of Joyce’s Life at Lord of All Lutheran Church in Strathmore, on Monday, March 9th at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at the Standard Graveyard following refreshments with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, may we suggest a donation directly to the Calgary Humane Society (4455, 110 Ave. SE, Calgary, T2C 2T7 or online at calgaryhumane.ca/donate).

HODGSON
Joanne May

February 19, 1962 - March 24, 2020

Joanne May Hodgson, age 58, passed away on March 24, 2020 in the Drumheller Hospital with her family by her side. Joanne was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer on January 5th, 2020 and fought every day with a positive attitude, courage and strength. She found strength in her family, friends and especially her husband Jim who stood by her side every day. Her husband and children could not be more proud of the strength she showed during this difficult time.
Joanne was born on February 19th, 1962 in Drumheller, Alberta to Sharon Lynn Eskeland and Edward Raymond Eskeland. She grew up just west of Drumheller on Ed and Sharon’s farm and was the first born of four children, including John, Jason and Jim Eskeland. Shortly after graduating high school, she met the love of her life, Jim Gordon Hodgson and the two were married in June of 1982. Joanne and Jim’s children followed shortly thereafter, including son Eric James Hodgson born in June of 1987, son Coleman John Hodgson born in August of 1988 and daughter Christina (Chrissy) May Gibson in May of 1990.
Joanne was an incredibly hard working individual, starting in an administrative role at the Drumheller Fountain Tire in 1995. Joanne was the first woman in Fountain Tire’s history to be promoted to Assistant General Manager before taking ownership and sole Management of the shop in 2012. Joanne recently received her 25 year service award and beamed with pride. Joanne was very passionate about serving the Drumheller area community and developed deep friendships with many of her customers. Fountain Tire was truly her second home and family.
Joanne most enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren in all of their sporting/extracurricular activities. This included many long road trips for Eric, Coleman and Christina’s hockey to various parts of the world. Most recently, Joanne’s greatest joy came in the form of her six grandchildren who each became significant parts of her life. Outside of work, Jim and Joanne would be found spending most of their time with their grandchildren.
Joanne is survived by her husband Jim, son Eric (Amber), son Coleman (Netania) and daughter Chrissy (John). She is also survived by six grandchildren including Kaynen and Brielle (Eric and Amber), Trace and Ryden (Coleman and Netania) and Brooklyn and Benjamin (Chrissy and John).
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family is planning a small private service at this time with a public memorial at a later date. Joanne was very passionate in supporting local. In lieu of flowers, we ask you to please consider supporting a local charity, business, organization – or – The Canadian Cancer Society.

Love you Forever.
